KARACHI: Factory worker shot dead

KARACHI, Feb 3: A worker of a garment unit was killed after being kidnapped in Saeedabad early on Friday morning.Police said that Imran Abbas, 24, was kidnapped late on Thursday night. The bullet-riddled body was later recovered from a narrow street in Sector 8-A, Saeedabad. The body bore multiple bullet wounds, police added.

Police said that Rs4,500 were recovered from his possession. A rented motorcycle acquired by the deceased was recovered from the Mochko police limits. The deceased was resident of Baldia Town.




BUSTED: A joint team of Citizen-Police Liaison Committee and North Nazimabad police busted a gang of extortionists.

CPLC spokesman on Friday said that complainant Ijaz Sadruddin was receiving threats from unidentified persons who were demanding Rs10 million from him as extortion money.

A team of CPLC central and TPO North Nazimabad laid a trap for the extortionists when the suspects came to get the cash near Dehli Muslim Kabab House, Hydri, on Thursday. Sensing the trap, they opened fire on the team and attempted to flee ensuing an exchange of fire.

Police managed to nab a suspect Imtiaz while his three accomplices evaded arrest. A TT pistol was also recovered from his possession.

FIRE: Two godowns containing wood were gutted in a fire that broke out in the timber market in Godhra Camp, New Karachi, on Friday morning.

The Chief Fire Officer said that fire had broken out in a timber godown and spread into the neighbouring compound. Seven fire tenders were employed to control the fire. He said that the fire was totally brought under control around 11am. Cause of the fire and extent of the losses could not be ascertained.
