Tube-well pipe bursts; two dead

LARKANA, Jan 20: Two persons were killed and one injured when a pipe of a tube-well burst near Qambar on Friday. The incident took place when farmers were busy irrigating wheat crop in the Lakhtio village, around 50 kilometres away from here.

Pieces of the blown up pipe hit Saeed Ahmed, 15, son of Nazal Chandio, and killed him on the spot.

Wazeer Ahmed Chandio succumbed to injuries in the Chandka Medical College Hospital while Abdul Sattar was injured and admitted to the hospital.

Sources said that the villagers were killed when the main pulley of the connecting main pipe with electric motor broke.

Police started probe into the incident.

ANTI-POLIO CAMPAIGN: During a three-day anti-polio campaign, starting in Larkana from January 24, 267,430 children will be administered anti-polio drops.

Health EDO Dr Noor Ahmed Khoso informed a meeting which was presided over by District Nazim Mohammed Bakhsh Arijo here on Friday. The meeting asked parents to get their children vaccinated without any hindrance. The nazim stressed the need of focusing on remote areas of the district so that no child would be left unvaccinated.

The meeting was informed that 614 mobile teams along with doctors and paramedics would be available with 30 immunization centres established to immunize children against seven deadly diseases.
