PO killed in ‘encounter’

GUJRAT, Jan 15: A proclaimed offender was shot dead after about a one-hour shootout with the police in Lakhanwal Khurd in Jalalpur Jattan late on Friday night. Reports said police got an information that some criminals were hiding in the outhouse of PO Sher Ali alias Shera. A police team, led by DSP, reached there and besieged the area. Getting the wind of police presence, the outlaws opened fire on them which was returned. The firing continued for some one hour, leaving one of the criminals dead. He was later identified as PO Nasrullah while his two accomplices, who laid down their arms, were identified as POs Irfan alias Commando and Sher Ali. While their two other accomplices beat a retreat. Police also recovered two 30 bore pistols from the arrested accused.

ELECTED: Asghar Baswal, the PPP-backed candidate, was elected Gujrat District Bar Association president.

He defeated Muhammad Tufail Hinjra by a margin of 170 votes.

PPP-supported Maktoom Ahmed Butt was elected secretary-general. His rival was Muhammad Ilyas of the PML.
