KARACHI: ASH doctor suspended, others issued notices

KARACHI, Jan 14: The City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, during his visit to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, issued directives for suspension of a doctor of Medical Unit-2 besides issuing show cause notices to other doctors and paramedical staff.

According to details, the nazim paid a surprise visit to the hospital late Friday night to review ongoing development work there, said a city government statement on Saturday.

Dr Waqar Kazmi, Dr Nasir Javed and Muhammad Haseeb Khan, members of the committee formed to monitor the development work under way at the hospital, were also present.

The nazim, after examining development work in progress at the Trauma Centre, went to the duty room where he inquired about the staff on duty and also checked the duty register.

He took serious note of the absence of the RMO of Medical Unit-2 and issued directives for the suspension of Dr Faisal for providing wrong information that the RMO was present.

He directed the hospital’s MS to conduct an inquiry and present a report within a day explaining the reasons of the RMO’s absence.

The city nazim said that the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital had been established for a noble purpose of serving people and the city government was spending a sizeable amount to achieve the very objective.

He said if the hospital failed to serve the purpose and if its doctors and staff failed to improve their attitude, then a major decision could be considered in this regard.

Calling the hospital a white elephant, Mr Kamal said there was no need to maintain it if it could not ensure dedicated service to the citizens.

He asked the hospital’s MS to pay frequent surprise visits to different departments so that improvement could be brought in its administrative affairs.—APP
