MIRAMSHAH, Jan 9: Army helicopters fired rockets on a village in Mirali tehsil of the North Waziristan Agency on Monday, official sources said.
People of the area said that two helicopters fired several rockets at residential compounds in Mosaki village, damaging two houses. However, no casualties have been reported.
In a related development, hundreds of army and paramilitary troops besieged four villages near Mirali town and conducted house-to-house searches.
The residents have already vacated the area and shifted their families to other places.
Sources said that army and paramilitary forces had cordoned off Aemar, Eisokhel, Malagan and Mosaki villages and launched the search operation. However no arrest was made, officials said.
SOLDIERS INJURED: Three paramilitary soldiers were injured in a rocket attack on a checkpoint near Miramshah, North Waziristan Agency, on Sunday night, officials said.
Unidentified persons fired rockets on a checkpoint on the Miramshah-Datakhel road and injured three soldiers. Their names could not be confirmed.
Sources said that after the attack, security forces and miscreants exchanged heavy fire. Several houses of tribesmen were also caught in the fire, but no casualties were reported.
BAN: On Monday, the agency’s political administration put a ban on display of arms and warned people not to carry weapons at night.
Officials said the authorities had taken this decision due to growing attacks on the security forces in the restive agency.
Meanwhile, the Usmanzai tribe handed over 10 people to the political authorities in Miramshah as guarantors.
Under the tribal code of law, these 10 people will remain with the authorities till the surrender of actual culprits who killed eight paramilitary soldiers in an attack on a checkpoint on Friday night.
Sources said the tribesmen had reiterated their demand for the withdrawal of troops from Eisokhel area where paramilitary troops had been attacked.
