APHC ready for second round of talks: Mirwaiz

NEW DELHI, Jan 9: All Parties Hurriyat Conference on Monday said it was ready for second round of talks with New Delhi and expressed hope that the government would do more to redress human rights problems and custodial killings in the occupied Kashmir.

“We are ready for talks as this is Hurriyat’s stand that it will never shy away from talks. We are prepared to hold the second round of talks with the Centre,” APHC leader Mirwaiz Umer Farooq told PTI.

However, Mr Farooq, who returned from Pakistan after holding talks with President Gen Pervez Musharraf, said New Delhi needed to fulfil commitments of ending custodial killings, showing more respect to human rights and releasing of political activists.

Hurriyat delegation had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in September during which they were assured that some measures including releasing of detained people and putting in place a strict mechanism to check human rights violations would be taken.—Online
