KARACHI: DJ college renovation

KARACHI, Jan 8: A plan has been chalked out for the renovation and restoration of the historic building of D.J Sindh Government Science College. This was stated by the principal of the college, Dr Ravi Shankar, here on Sunday. He was of the view that everything was ready in this regard and only an NOC was awaited from the Sindh Department of Heritage and Culture as the permission had already been obtained from the Karachi Building Control Authority (KBCA).

Dr Shankar pointed out that the PC-I form had already got approved with a sanctioned amount of Rs34 million in this respect.

He was of the view that the renovation and restoration of the building would suffice for the next 100 years.

It was pointed out that the construction of this building had started in 1887 and was completed in the year 1892.

The current enrolment in this college is 2,200 students.

Dr Shankar pointed out that the work on this project could not be started because of the unavailability of the NOC from the Sindh Culture and Heritage Department. Owing to this a sum of Rs4 million lapsed last year, he added.

Meanwhile, Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro visited the D.J. College on Saturday.

On the occasion, Dr Shankar briefed her about the renovation and restoration work of the college.

The education minister said that the building of the D.J. college would be restored in its original shape and would be expanded so that the opportunities for higher education could be made available to more youngsters.—APP
