KARACHI, Dec 15: The Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, on Thursday observed that besides being the region’s economic hub, Karachi was also a centre of sports, cultural, economic, and academic and intellectual activities of the country.
He was talking to journalists at the National Stadium Karachi on occasion of the third ODI between Pakistan and England played on Thursday.
The Sindh Home Minister, Rauf Siddiqui, Information Adviser Salahuddin Haider, Local Government Adviser Wasim Akhtar, City Nazim Mustafa Kamal and Nazim Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town Wasay Jalil were also present.
Ibad congratulated the Pakistani cricket team, management of the Pak-England ODI, and the public on winning the cricket match, and on holding the match peacefully, remarking that cricket enthusiasts had got opportunity to watch an interesting match.
Lauding the good attitude and sportsman spirit of Karachiites, he said people of the metropolis had proved that Karachi was one of the best cities of the world.
He observed that due to untiring efforts of the government, a positive image of Karachi had emerged, and it was improving by the day.
He added that several international events were being held at a time, which had been made possible due to the co-operation between the government and people.
He vowed that within the next few years, Karachi would be made an international city with all modern facilities. In this regard, works were under way in every sector and mega projects were under progress, he added.
Ibad also hailed efforts of the law enforcing agencies and the city government for making better arrangements for the match.
Earlier, the governor along with his wife Shaheena Ibad watched the last moments of the match and then distributed prizes at the third Pakistan-England ODI.—PPI
