KARACHI, Dec 7: The Defence Housing Authority, in collaboration with the Clifton Cantonment Board, has launched a campaign for fumigation of all the phases of Defence and the area under the CBC, including the adjoining Katchi Abadis.

This was stated in a statement issued by the DHA. It said the DHA administrator, Brig Maqsood Hussain, announced the decision to this effect while presiding over a meeting of the concerned officials of DHA/CCB. CEO Clifton Cantonment Board Iftikhar Mir was also present.

The fumigation campaign which kicked off on Wednesday will cover all the localities of DHA and Clifton Cantonment Board with focus of spray on garbage dumps, nullahs, manholes, open plots, water ponds, commercial/residential areas and katchi abadis.

Special insecticides of various categories have been procured in bulk quantity for the campaign,

The DHA/CBA teams would spray each nook and corner of the area on a war footing.

The overall campaign will be carried out under supervision of Javed Mahmood, Chief Sanitary Inspector of Clifton Cantonment Board while Maj (Retd) Javed Munnawar, Deputy Director Services and Maintenance DHA will be the overall coordinator of the programme.

On Wednesday, the areas of Phase-I, II Extension and Phase-IV, including Jami Commercial, were fumigated.

On Dec 8, fumigation will be done in DHA Phase-V, Khayaban—i-Shamsher, (Stadium Market), Khayaban-iTanzeem, Khayaban-i-Ghazi, Khayaban-i-Mujahid, Sea View Apartments, Darakhshan Villas and Neelum Colony.

On Dec 9, fumigation would be carried out in Khayaban-i-Badar, Bahria and Badban, Sehar Commercial, Shahbaz Commercial, Badar Commercial and Saba Commercial of DHA Phase-VI and Katchi Abadis of Dehli Colony, Punjab Colony, Chandio Village and Bakshan Village and on Dec 12 in Jumhuria Colony, Hazara Colony, Transit Camp and PNS Shifa Area.

As per the stipulated programme, intensive fumigation will be carried out six hours daily except on Dec 9 when the duration would be nine hours.

Special sprays are very effective against the potential carrier of deadly virus, breeding mosquitoes, ticks and flees which breeds in mounds of filth, garbage and animal manure.

The DHA administrator, speaking on the occasion, asked the concerned staff of DHA/CBC to participate in the campaign with utmost vigour and to spare no effort to make it a success.

He said that the campaign should be conducted in a manner that that its results become visible on the ground.—APP
