KARACHI: Pesh imam shot dead in Lyari

KARACHI, Dec 5: The prayer leader of a mosque was shot dead by unknown persons in the early hours of Monday in Lyari. Police said Maulana Habibur Rehman, pesh imam of Faizan-i-Auliya, was sitting near a bakery in Liaquat Colony, Nayabad Lyari, when unknown persons on a motorcycle pulled up and opened fire at him.

The incident occurred after Fajr prayers. The victim was said to be an activist of the Sunni Tehreek. He was rushed to Civil Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Hospital sources said the victim had suffered four bullet wounds.

The deceased hailed from Multan, police said. Following the incident, tension griped parts of Lyari and other city parts.

SHOT DEAD: An employee of the city government was shot dead by an unknown man near Liaquat Market on Monday evening.

Police said Saleemul Hasan, 30, was walking home to Jaffar-i-Tayyar when an unknown man on motorcycle pulled up, shot him and fled.

Police said the victim died before he could be shifted to the hospital.

KILLED: Two policemen died in separate incidents in various city parts on Monday.

Police said Head Constable Ali Gohar Khoso was shot dead by a suspect identified as Mushtaq in Mauripur area late Sunday night. The victim died before he could be shifted to hospital, police said.

The suspect was nabbed weapon used in the murder recovered. Police suspected some personal enmity behind the killing.

In another incident, which appeared to be accidental firing, police said Constable Ali Akbar was found dead lying on a chair in treasury office of the City Railway Station on Monday morning.
