Fast Burner fancied to make amends

By Anwar Zuberi

KARACHI, Dec 3: Two-year-old colt, Fast Burner, is our day’s best when the Winter Gymkhana race meeting takes place at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Drawn in the second race of the afternoon, he will be up against seven opponent’ s in the five furlong race restricted for Pakistani colts and fillies of two years of age.

Fast Burner was beaten to second position by just half length by Safari Queen in the Nov 20 outing. He should be chased by Stormy Kiss and Zidane.

A card of nine races has been chalked out for the day with first race starting at 12.00 noon.

Royal Lancer, a seven-year-old horse, is fancied to dictate terms in the opener which has a field of eight contestants. Chestnut, I’M So Happy and seven-year-old mare, Dushtiyani, are poised to secure places.

With 12 runners in contention, four-year-old colt, Gullu’s Government, is likely to make amends in the third race which would be run on a sprinting distance of six furlongs. Gullu’s Government had to be content with second slot in the last meeting.

Leopard and Jawan Bakht, both three-year-old colts, should battle it out for the next two places.

Janu Janwar, owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara, who had an impressive run last month by crowning the glory, is our fancy in the fourth race. He will have to overcome Bilal Choice and King Of Mehran.

Sharp Cat, a four-year-old colt, who was narrowly beaten to second spot last Sunday with Shahid Mannan in the saddle, should pick up the spoils in the six furlong fifth race. It will have a field of 16 runners.

Smiling Face and Super Salute should grab the next two places.
