KARACHI, Dec 3: An anti-terrorism court indicted a sector-in-charge of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement for killing a police constable and injuring another.

Ghulam Qadir Patni was charged with killing PC Jehangir Minhas and injuring policeman Ansar Mehmood on March 23 in Baghdadi police limits.

The accused denied the charges and pleaded not guilty. The prosecution said the accused fired on the policemen when they tried to stop him for search. The accused also took away the official SMG of the deceased policeman. He was arrested in June and during interrogation he confessed to the encounter. Police also seized the official SMG with 17 bullets from his possession.

The ATC headed by Judge Arshad Noor Khan after indictment of the accused directed special public prosecutor to present the prosecution witness to prove the crime. The case was adjourned to Dec 5. — PPI
