KARACHI, Dec 3: Minister for Ports and Shipping Senator Babar Khan Ghouri on Saturday urged Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz to give Rs12 billion to Karachi which the federal government was going to save after the privatization of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC).

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Oil Pier-II, the minister said since the public utility – KESC – had been handed over to the private sector the federal government would be saving Rs12 billion it used to give for mopping up its losses.

Senator Ghouri said these funds will be used for the development of Karachi which needs huge funds to develop its infrastructure and other development works.

He assured the prime minister that he will always meet his targets and pointed out that during the last 18 months he (the prime minister) had visited the KPT five times to perform inauguration and ground-breaking ceremonies. “This indicates how vibrant and pro-active my ministry is,” he added.
