KARACHI, Nov 17: The Sindh High Court suspended on Thursday a provincial government notification extending the tenure of the incumbent office-bearers and executive committee of the Karachi Electronic Dealers Association, Saddar, from one year to three years.

A former association president who lost the 2004 poll the office submitted through Advocate Asghar Ali that the executive and the office-bearers were elected for one year and fresh elections should have been held in mid-2005.

However, relying on a discarded old practice, the association’s executive elected last year sought extension of tenure. The application was rejected by the government department concerned. A new application made a couple of weeks later was accepted by the department without giving any reason.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Athar Saeed issued notices to all the respondents for Nov 25 and suspended the impugned notification in the meanwhile.
