No arrests in girl’s murder, torture of family

By Sajjad Abbas Niazi

SARGODHA, Nov 12: Police failed to arrest nine alleged drug peddlers and a former UC nazim who reportedly killed a teen-aged girl and injured her three sisters and their blind father at Chak No 109 SB two days ago.

According to the bereaved family, one Akmal tried to entice a daughter of Zulfikar, a blind field worker, into developing illicit relations with him. The girl informed her father about the incident who rebuked Akmal over the matter.

Akmal harboured grudge against the blind worker and barged into Zulfikar’s house on Nov 10 along with his nine accomplices, including a former UC nazim.

Armed with hatchets, sticks and knives, the intruders allegedly gave a sever beating to Shahzia and Farzana who had reportedly also admonished Akmal for teasing their sister.

The accused also injured Shabnam, Zulfikar, Shamshad, Dilshad, Abdul Sattar and Basqri, the mother of the girls.

The girls’ mother alleged that Saddar police turned a deaf ear to her complaint when she took the injured to the police station.

She also alleged that her severely injured daughters, Shazia and Shabnam, were sent to a hospital for medical treatment after two-hour delay as the accused party had heavily bribed the police. She said the delay caused Shazia’s death, while Shabnam was still lying unconscious in the hospital.

She said the police pressured her to strike a deal with the accused party and also threatened to register a cross case against the family.

She alleged the accused were known drug-pushers of the area and were on ‘friendly terms’ with the police.

Saddar SHO Muhammad Aslam claimed the injured were sent to a hospital after immediate registration of case. He said raids were being conducted for arrest of the accused.
