GUJRANWALA, Nov 8: A police party led by an ASP and SHO failed to arrest six outlaws who looted a house and escaped after an encounter on GT Road near Ghakkhar on Monday night.

Police said the robbers entered the house of Abdul Ghafoor on the Civil Hospital Road. They tied the family with ropes, collected Rs90,000 in cash, gold jewellery, other valuables and a 7mm rifle.

Later, they forced their entry into the house of Haji Yousaf Rajput on the same road. But, they had to flee empty handed when the family raised an alarm and called police which reached there immediately. The robbers opened fire on the police party led by Wazirabad ASP Rana Abdul Jabbar and Ghakkhar SHO Afzal Bhatti when they followed them. Police also returned the fire but the robbers managed to escape in dark.

The incidents of robberies in the town are on the rise despite police patrol. Residents of adjacent localities have arranged their watchmen (thekri pehra).

ARRESTED: A sub-inspector posted at Wazirabad Saddar police station was arrested on the order of the ASP on fraud charges on Tuesday.

Sub-Inspector Yousaf favoured accused Nasim of Ahmad Nagar in a criminal case by imitating the signatures of the SHO. When the ASP came to know about the fraud, he ordered an inquiry against Yousaf and he was found guilty.

SUMMONS: The sessions court has summoned district jail superintendent and his staff on Nov 14 for not releasing an accused before Eid despite acceptance of his bail application.

Reports said Ladheywala police had booked one Akram on charges of firing under Section 324/34 of the PPC and sent him to jail some two weeks ago. Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Amjad Ali Khan accepted his bail application and ordered to release him before Eid on Nov 2. But the jail staff did not release him.

After Eid, the complainant moved the court and pleaded that the jail staff allegedly acted at the behest of his rivals.

DISMISSED: An assistant sub-inspector was dismissed from the service on Tuesday on the recommendations of district public safety commission for abuse of power.
