ISLAMABAD, Nov 3: Three minor children died and two others suffered burn injuries when fire broke out in a tent at Bagh on Wednesday night. Asghar Hayat, a family member of the victims, told Dawn that the fire erupted when a candle fell on the blankets placed in a nylon tent.

An Imam of a mosque and his seven children were living in the Korean tent which was provided to them by some rescue workers.

At the time of the incident, the Imam was offering Taraveeh prayers at an adjacent tent while his seven children were sleeping in their tent. As a result of the fire, Toheeda, 5, Abdul Moeen, 6, and Abdul Waheed, 9, died while Abdul Malik, 17, and Abdul Rabbani, 12, received burn injuries.

Mr Hayat quoted the deceased’s father as saying that the tent was reduced to ashes within 15 minutes. The injured were shifted to Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where their condition is stated to be critical.—Staff Reporter
