Ruling party MNA denies UC naib nazim’s kidnap

By Our Correspondent

TOBA TEK SINGH, Nov 3: Ruling party MNA Amjad Warraich has said his group had nothing to do with the kidnap of Gojra Union Council No 3 naib nazim Chaudhry Younis Jat and opposition parties unjustifiably blame him and his brothers.

Talking here to this correspondent on Thursday he claimed that although his younger brother was defeated in tehsil nazim’s election. But now his group has gained majority in the house and the ruling party candidate would win tehsil naib nazim’s slot.

Mr Warraich alleged that tehsil nazim Asad Zaman Cheema had purchased the votes that was why his brother faced defeat.

Meanwhile, the mystery of kidnap and return of Mr Jat, who is also a former district council vice-chairman, is still unsolved. According to his son Amjad who registered a case with the Saddar police station, his father was asleep in his house on the night of Oct 9 in Chak 97 JB where accused Zulfiqar and his accomplices came there in a car and knocked at the door.

When he came out, they asked him to send his father as former tehsil nazim Khalid Warraich has come to see him. As soon as his father came out, they bundled him in their car and drove away.

During 14 days of his disappearance, tehsil nazim Asad Cheema, former PML MNA M. Hamza, former PPP MNA Haji Ishaq and former MPA Ihsanul Haq Gujjar addressed press conferences at Gojra and here and alleged that ruling party MNA Amjad Warraich (the brother of Khalid Warraich) was pressurizing police not to register the case. They claimed that the police deleted the name of Khalid Warraich from the FIR.

DPO Akhtar Laleka had told journalists that police parties had arrested a number of Warraich group men to recover the kidnapped man. He had also claimed that the name of Khalid Warraich was not deleted by police and in fact relatives of the abductee had themselves amended the application. He had also claimed that complainant Amjad had repeatedly changed his statement before police.

When the abductee’s son filed a petition before district and sessions judge who ordered Gojra DSP to recover and produce him in his court on Oct 24, the abductee suddenly reached his village a night before the hearing. He reached police station along with opposition parties’ leaders and endorsed the FIR registered by his son.

It is interesting to note that in the 34-member tehsil council, both groups have equal strength but both are claiming their majority. After the kidnap of the naib nazim, the nazim’s group was reduced to 16.

The opposition has named Gojra city Union Council No 23 naib nazim and PPP activist Islam Abid as its candidate for the naib nazim slot while the Warraich group has yet to name its candidate. The election is expected in the last week of current month or first week of December.
