NAWABSHAH, Nov 3: The district administration on Thursday banned offering Eid prayers on the municipal ground because of tension between two religious groups. Police asked Ulema to offer prayers in Eidgah and other alternate places due to security reasons.

An unidentified man phoned the District Police Officer (DPO) office on Wednesday night that a bomb was planted in the municipal ground and it could blast anytime.

TPO Aijaz Tarin along with the Madadgar police reached the spot and after a thorough search, no clue of bomb was found.

The TPO said the police received information that some people were involved in suspected activities at the municipal ground and when they reached, there was nothing.

He said there was a tension between two religious groups for organizing Eid prayers on the ground due to which Ulema of both sides were called by DPO Sarwar Jamali and it was decided that no group would offer prayers at the ground.

Tension persisted in the city after which a heavy contingent of police had been deployed on and around the ground.

He said the police were deployed for security reasons and maintenance of the law and order due to tension.
