Students retake school premises

By Our Correspondent

CHITRAL, Oct 25: Students of the Government Centennial Model School Chitral retook school premises from police and demolished an under-construction structure being raised by police.

Hundreds of students boycotted their classes and gathered at a place in front of the school and made the labourers and contractor flee.

The disputed property is said to be the old Principal House of the school till 1976 when the then principal, lent it to a non-local police inspector who was in need of accommodation.

The principal of the school never tried to retrieve the accommodation of the school as most of them happened to be locals who did not require it.

The building constructed in 1950s and purchased by the school in 1970, has been in a bad shape and remained unoccupied for the last many years.

The students took action when the police wanted to demolish the old building and construct a residential quarter at the place.

The protesting students dispersed peacefully when the district nazim Haji Maghfirat Shah reached the spot and assured them that the case will be decided purely on merit.

Meanwhile, in its emergency meeting here on Tuesday, the Chitral chapter of All Teachers Association condemned the police action of usurpation of the principal house.
