Pervaiz due today

LAHORE, Oct 20: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi is expected to arrive here on Friday morning after an around 15-day stay in the UK and the US.

He had gone to England to attend the wedding ceremony of his son and to the US later for medical checkup.

Officials said he was expected to have briefings mainly on the earthquake-related relief measures taken by the provincial government, and the overall situation here soon after his arrival in the city.

The chief minister is expected to preside over a special cabinet meeting on Saturday which would mainly discuss the efforts made by the provincial government to assist the affected people.

EARTHQUAKE: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has directed the provincial administration to take maximum care of the earthquake-hit people of Azad Kashmir and the NWFP who have been shifted to the province for assistance, says a handout issued here on Thursday.

Instructing heads of all departments concerned from London, the chief minister said that besides provision of succour and manpower, Punjab should also fulfil its responsibilities towards looking after the calamity-stricken people.

He ordered that the project of setting up of two big tent cities in Punjab would be given a practical shape on emergency basis.

The chief minister directed that maximum medical facilities be provided to the injured in all hospitals of the province besides giving food and accommodation facilities to their attendants.

He also directed all the district administration to provide proper treatment facilities to the people injured in the earthquake in various districts of the province.

The provincial government, he said, would utilize all resources for the relief of the affected people.
