KARACHI, Oct 12: Three-year-old bay colt, Tharkyee, justified his top billing when he won the feature event at the Winter Gymkhana race meeting at Karachi Racecourse on Wednesday.

Ridden by jockey Fahim K he led the pack of nine contestants in a start to finish bid to win the six furlongs last race of the day convincingly by six lengths.

Owned by Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara and trained by Allah Judrio, Tharkyee had emerged victorious in the previous two outings last month.

Finishing second was seven-year-old mare, Birj-Ul-Arab, while three-year-old colt, Arab-Hi-Arab, settled for third place.

Another salient feature of the day was a magnificent double performed by jockey Mohammad Yousuf.

He rode home two winners in back-to-back races to perform the feat. After sprinting home four-year-old colt, Azam The Great, to triumph in the five furlongs third race of the afternoon, he piloted home half-bred Rahil Pearl, in the next.

Trainers, Ghulam Channa and Mansoor Alam also had a satisfying day as their two trained horses apiece emerged triumphant.

Earlier, Raja Sajid Abbasi’s ten-year-old mare, Khush Nazar, won the opening race going over to sprinting distance of five furlongs. Super Time and Taneez settled for the places.

Jockey Ghulam Shabbir II piloted home two-year-old colt, Moj-e-Arab to victory in the second race. Chestnut, Moon Raker, was placed second while filly, Queen Of Mirwa, finished third.

Favourite Order Of The Day, a seven-year-old mare, ran away with the fifth race beating another mare, Sonia, to second place by five lengths.

The sixth race belonged to three-year-old colt, Jawan Bakht, who won the closely fought battle by half a length.

Meanwhile, a lucky punter clinched the jackpot amounting to Rs.92,000.

The next Winter Gymkhana race meeting will be held on Oct 16.
