Arrest of tribal elder condemned

Published October 10, 2005

QUETTA, Oct 9: The Balochistan National Party (Mengal) has condemned the arrest of a tribal elder in Khuzdar and demanded release of all political detainees.

In a joint statement, MNA Abdul Rauf Mengal, MPA Akhtar Hussain Langoo and the party’s vice-president Sajid Tareen said that the action taken by the government against members and supporters of the BNP was aimed at harassing family members of the detainee.

The statement said that because of the good performance of the BNP in the local government polls the Federal Intelligence Agency and the provincial government were taking undemocratic steps, but such actions would not succeed in forcing the party to give up its struggle against the usurpers.

The party demanded immediate release of Mir Abdul Hakim and all other political detainees.
