Tribute paid to teachers

PESHAWAR, Oct 5: Speakers at a seminar on Wednesday paid rich tributes to teachers and called upon both public and private sectors to take concrete steps to reward teachers with the position and privileges that they deserved.

The seminar was arranged by the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) in collaboration with the Schools and Literacy Department, Karak, here at the Government Higher Secondary School, Karak, in connection with the “World Teachers Day” (Salam Teachers Day).

The ceremony was attended by heads of government departments, former and newly-elected representatives, office-bearers of various social organisations, notables of the district, religious scholars and hundreds of teachers and students.

Speaking on the occasion, the District Education Officer, Mr Moinuddin, said that teachers played a vital role in the development of the country.

“The coming generation is totally dependent upon teachers and they can truly guide them for leading a useful life. The teachers can thus contribute more than anybody else to the ailing community”, Mr Moinuddin said.

He said that being a federal government organisation, the NCHD was rendering wonderful services to the community in terms of education, adult literacy and health. All the achievements recorded in education were the result of close coordination and liaison of the NCHD and Schools and Literacy Department, which was a role model for the rest of the government-line departments, he added. Haji Inayat Ullah, principal of the Government Higher Secondary School, said that close interaction of the teachers and students was the key to success of students.

Addressing the participants, the District General Manager of the NCHD, Nasim Ejaz Khattak, said that the enrolment of school-going children were increased to 90 per cent from its previous 62 per cent while the dropout had been reduced to two per cent.

The seminar was also addressed by Sector Director, Literacy for All, Tasleem Khan, Assistant District Officers-Education, Abdul Shahan, Azizullah and Taweez Gul.
