Women’s Softball: Balochistan finish third

LAHORE, Oct 3: Defending champions Balochistan defeated Islamabad 14-6 to finish third in the 4th National women’s softball championship at the Lahore College, University for Women on Monday.

Balochistan won the toss and opted to bat first.

In the first innings both teams batted well but Balochistan managed to get ahead with a 4-3 lead.

Balochistan suffered an early loss when Fahmida was out off the very first ball of the first innings.

Sehrish scored the first run for Balochistan after Shumaila loaded the base.

Atiya, Khadija and Irum scored one run each as Balochistan scored four runs.

Islamabad also made a bad start when Shazia was out without scoring a run.

Tayyaba came and loaded the first and second bases with a hit before Najma got a walk and Sumaira scored the first run.

Later, Najma and Naila also scored a run each for Islamabad but after Balochistan’s pitcher struck out the Islamabad team.

In the second innings, Balochistan scored only one run while Islamabad failed to score any.

Balochistan led the third innings 9-6 by adding four more runs through Fahmeeda, Shahla, Atiaya Khadija and Razia.

Islamabad also added three runs through Sumaira, Shazia and Taiba.

In the fourth innings, Balochistan collected five more runs through Shumaila (2), Sumaira (1), Atiya (1) and Fahmeeda (1).

Islamabad failed to earn any run in the fourth innings due to fine fielding by Balochistan.

Punjab meet NWFP in the main final on Tuesday.
