Nadia steals limelight

LAHORE, Oct 3: Nadia Zulifqar scored 19 points to help Lahore win the first Punjab Sports Board U-17 girls athletics championship with 53 points and she was also declared the best athlete of the meet which ended at the Punjab Stadium on Monday.

In all, Lahore won three golds, as many silver and two bronze medals.

Jhang secured second spot with 35 points, winning two gold and two silver medals, each. Rawalpindi came in third with 31 points, notching up one gold and four bronze medals.

Thirty-one districts competed in the three-day event in which 11 competitions were held. The winners, runners-up and third finishers of each event received a cash prize of Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000.

Wasim Khalid of Jhang was declared the fastest girl of the meet winning the 100m race in 14.27seconds.

Mrs Rubina Khalid Maqbool was the chief guest and she announced Rs 100,000 to provide kits to the players.

RESULTS:

100m race: Wasim Khalid 14.27sec; Irum Nadia Zulifqar.

200m: Sidra Ghulam Mustafa 29.91sec; Shumaila Sadiq ; Nadia Zulifqar.

800m: Azalfa Shafi two min 45.00sec; Nazia Iqbal; Shumaila Shahzadi.

Long-jump: Misbah Tariq 4.27m; Nadia Zulifqar; Asma Rafiq.

Discus throw: Khadija 25.54m; Majida Saif Sania.
