HYDERABAD: Board of governors to look after medical colleges

HYDERABAD, Oct 3: An executive committee of the board of governors will now look after the affairs of medical colleges in Sindh. The Sindh government had formed the board when Faisal Malik Gabol was the health adviser.
The health minister will be patron-in-chief of the committee while vice chancellor or principal of a university or college will be its head.
Its members will include a professor (chairman), retired civil and defence officer, medical superintendent (secretary), vice-chancellor/principal of a university/college, health secretary, additional secretary, a known philanthropist/businessman or an NGO official, district nazim and finance director.
The chief minister will decide the names of businessman, NGO representative and district nazim.
The committee will meet regularly on every Monday and control the affairs of institutions.
It would examine plans, policies and programmes of institutes and review teaching and research there.
The committee will also examine the evaluation report of the institutes and their development and non-development budget. It could ask the provincial government to sanction grant and could consult national academic bodies and other relevant organisations to seek their help.
All transfers, appointments and postings of employees up to BS-16 would require an approval of the board. The role of medical superintendent has been changed. He would now serve as a member in the executive committee of board of governors.
Hospital sources said the chairman and the finance director would get salary from 30 per cent share of the self-financing scheme of the medical colleges.
