KARACHI, Oct 3: Sindh Health Minister Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani accompanied by Health Secretary Prof Noshad Shaikh on Monday inaugurated newly constructed eye operation theatre at Services Hospital.
The theatre is constructed as a part of ongoing ADP scheme for improvement and extension of Services Hospital.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Shabbir Qaimkhani appreciated the efforts of hospital administration and hoped that the most modern facilities regarding eye operations would be available in the hospital.
“Without improvement in education and health system, no nation can progress. Top brass of the country is not happy with the healthcare delivery system and health policy which indicates that despite efforts the loopholes could not be plugged yet,” he mentioned and asked doctors and other healthcare staff to suggest steps for improvement in health care system.
The minister emphasized on doctors to behave in a friendly way with patients, as their improved behaviour could lessen their sufferings. “We are also working on a policy, which will bind doctors to discharge duties in their respective districts, as at present, none of them are willing to work in rural areas, resulting in poor healthcare delivery in far-flung rural areas,” he added.
He said that long standing demand of paramedical staff for service structure would soon be fulfilled.
Earlier, Health Secretary Prof Noshad Shaikh stressed on hospital administration to take more stringent steps for rapid improvement in the services of hospital. He said the government was ready to provide the required funds for the purpose. Building of services hospital would be further improved, he said.
MS Services Hospital Dr Sohrab Anwar Hakeem said that improvement in the hospital was badly needed. Realizing the need, health authorities approved an ADP scheme and inauguration of eye OT was also a part of that development project, he mentioned. Orthopaedic, Cardiology and CT scan units are needed for the hospital to facilitate poor employees, he said, and urged the health minister and secretary to support them.
Consultant Ophthalmologist and In-Charge Eye Department Dr Talib Shaikh said that eye department had latest technology to treat various types of patients suffering from eye problems. Though most of the basic equipment had been acquired by the department B-Scan, Flouroscopy, Autoclave and some other gadgets were still not available at the department, he disclosed.—PPI
