PESHAWAR, Oct 1: The Peshawar district and sessions judge, Shahjehan Khan Akhundzada, on Saturday summoned a police officer and a woman in connection with a case regarding death of a woman due to police torture.
The judge ordered that the SHO of Banamari police station and a woman, Ms Naseema, should appear before the court on Oct 8.
The order was issued in an application filed by Alam Khan, the husband of the deceased woman, Ms Nazo, under section 22-A of Criminal Procedure Code, requesting the court to order registration of an FIR against the SHO and the woman. Advocate Yousaf Khan Yousafzai appeared for the applicant.
The applicant stated that the woman, Ms Nazo, had registered a fabricated case at the police station Banamari on June 25, wherein she had alleged that somebody had stolen Rs4.5 million from her residence. He stated that Ms Nazo was her neighbour and she was a smuggler.
The applicant stated that his wife was in an advanced stage of her pregnancy when the officials of Banamari police stations raided their residence on July 17 for arresting him in connection with the theft case.
He alleged that his wife tried to resist his arrest as he was innocent, but the police severely beat her. She received injuries and was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital.
The woman suffered a miscarriage and also lost her eye sight. The applicant stated that her condition further deteriorated and finally her kidneys stopped functioning and she expired in the hospital.
