DRO summons minister for campaigning

By Our Correspondent

KOHAT, Sept 25: The district returning officer (DRO) Kohat, has restricted State Minister for Water and Power Amir Muqam from taking part in election activities in the district and has summoned him to explain his position in respect of two applications. The two identical applications have been filed by Omar Khan and Saeed Shah Bokhari advocate, candidates for the district and tehsil nazim slots, against Mr Muqam, who is also the provincial president of PML.

The DRO, who is also the district and sessions judge Kohat, will hear the application on Tuesday.

The applicants have accused the minister of attending election meetings thus using his influence in favour of joint candidate of PML, ANP and PPP-S for the post of district nazim.

Meanwhile Seth Gohar Saifullah Khan Bangash, the nominee of PML ANP and PPP-S for the district nazim slot, in a clarification, has said that he has family relations with Mr Amir Muqam and that he had come on a private visit to Kohat during which he also attended his election meeting for a while.

ULTIMATUM: Local business community has given a ten-day ultimatum to the government for removal of tehsil municipal officer (TMO) because, they said, had failed in keeping a check on prices of essential commodities.

This was decided in a protest meeting held here on Tuesday. The meeting was addressed by traders and political leaders including Sher Khan Bangash, Ijaz Ahmed Paracha and Salim Khan Afridi.

They urged the district coordinating officer Kohat to take notice of price-hike in the district or else they would go on an indefinite strike.
