KARACHI: Industries told to give workers necessary wages
KARACHI, Sept 22: The Sindh government has issued a notification requiring all industrial and business organisations in the province to implement the Federal Finance Act 2005, which sets the minimum wages for “untrained” workers at Rs3,000.
“The act would come into force from Jan 2005 and all small and large industrial and trade organisations must ensure implementation of the law by paying Rs3,000 to their untrained workers as minimum wages,” the Sindh Labour Department said in a statement on Thursday.
The department warned that in case of violation, entrepreneurs would be fined besides being forced to pay full wages to workers.
The Federal Finance Act 2005 would give a 20 per cent raise to untrained workers previously getting Rs2,500 per month.
Sindh Labour Minister Adil Siddiqi has ordered the secretary labour to ensure “effective” enforcement of the act, using all available resources in this regard, the statement said, adding that the government was working on several projects for the welfare of labourers.—PPI
