Teams to monitor prices in Ramazan

Published September 17, 2005

LAHORE, Sept 16: City District Government Lahore caretaker and DCO Khalid Sultan has ordered starting of 18 Ramazan Bazaars for selling essential items at fixed prices during the holy month and invited proposals for enforcing price control on chicken.

Retail prices of flour, sugar, ghee, meat, pulses, tea and dates will be fixed at a meeting on Sept 20.

Presiding over a meeting of the district price control committee here on Friday, the DCO ordered selection of suitable sites for starting two Ramazan Bazaars in every town.

He said arrangements should be made for the availability of all essential commodities at these bazaars at fixed prices.

The DCO also constituted three special teams for monitoring prices of essential commodities in the open market and Ramazan Bazaars.

Officials in these teams would have magisterial powers to proceed against profiteers and hoarders. They would, however, not be allowed to delegate powers to their subordinates.
