Army grab rowing trophy

ISLAMABAD, Sept 14: Army survived a strong challenge from Navy to win the 26th national rowing championship which concluded at Rawal Lake on Wednesday. The two-day championship was participated by Army, Navy, Wapda, Karachi Boat Club and Islamabad Rowing Club.

Army emerged champions with four gold and three silver medals while Navy took the runners-up spot with three gold and four silver medals.

Karachi Boat Club finished third with two gold and as many bronze medals. Wapda won three bronze medals while Islamabad Rowing Club captured one bronze.

Going into the final event of lightweight coxless fours, Army and Navy had equal points. By winning this event, Army won the trophy.

The other events contested were single scull, double scull, lightweight pair and coxless pair.

Women rowing is being actively promoted in Karachi Boat Club and its women rowers won two gold medals in the rowing championship.—APP
