Works dept official shot dead

PESHAWAR, Sept 10: An official of the works department was shot dead and two of his relatives were injured allegedly by their rivals on the Sufaid Dheri Road in Pishtakhara police limits on Saturday morning. The official, Zardad, was going in his official car along with his relative Rehmat Sher, security in-charge of the University of Peshawar, and a minor boy, Tufail, when his rivals lying in ambush on the Sufaid Dheri Road opened indiscriminate fire.

As a result, Zardad was killed on the spot while Rehmat Sher and Tufail suffered bullet injuries. They were rushed to the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

Izhaar, brother of the injured Rehmat Sher, registered a case with the Pishtakhara police and nominated old rivals Mahir Shah and Zahir Shah, sons of Mehraban Shah, residents of Sufaid Dheri, as the accused.

Separately, six members of a family were injured when an old tree fell on their house in Mohalla Kikran in Dabgari locality on Friday night.

Residents of the area said that Ajab Gul, Jan, Anjum Javed and their wives were asleep when the old tree at the veranda of their house fell on their house due to heavy winds.

Gul Alam, a resident of Sahaafkhel area, told Faqirabad police that his son Gul Alam was on his way home when their rivals Shah Zaman, Shah Nazar, Shaukat allegedly opened fire and killed him.
