Rafi outclasses Imran

KARACHI, Sept 3: Unseeded Rafi Darbari continued his giant-killing match of 35-plus singles event in Seniors national tennis championship on Friday night at Karachi Club. Hyderabad’s Rafi who earlier thrashed the second seed in the first round match downed Imran in straight sets.

Imran, a hard hitting player from the baseline, could not match the experience and accuracy of his opponent and lost the match 6-2, 6-3.

The most interesting match of the day was that of 35-plus doubles match between Shafiqur Rehman-Hanif and Adil Ejaz-Altaf Aziz that took almost three hours to finish.

Shafiq-Hanif won the epic battle after dropping the first set 3-6. They emerged winners of next two sets with the score of 6-4, 7-5 to enter the next stage.

In another match of 35-plus singles, Rashid Ahmed beat Adil Aziz 6-3, 6-2 while Khawaja Masroor cruised into the second round of 45-plus singles overpowering Tariq Aziz 6-2, 6-2.
