EC orders recount of votes

BANNU, Sept 3: The chief election commissioner has ordered recounting of votes in all polling stations of Bazaar Ahmad Khan union council in Bannu. Candidates for nazim and naib nazim seats of UC Bazaar Ahmad Khan, Sher Ali Baz and Mohammad Siddique Khan had appealed to the election commission for recounting of votes of all the polling stations.

Besides ordering the recounting on Aug 31, the CEC has also sought a report from the quarters concerned about the polling in UC had been sought.

Abdul Mateen and Shakeel Khan were elected as nazim and naib nazim of the union council. They had polled 992 votes against the runner-up panel of Sher Ali Baz and Muhammad Siddique who got 988 votes.

MEETING: A meeting of newly-elected nazims, naib nazims and councillors of various union councils was held at Baran Dam here on Friday.

The elected representatives of union councils Janikhel Wazir, Hindikhel Wazir, Takhtikhel Wazir and Bakakhel Wazir attended the meeting.

Nazims-elect Malik Rehmatullah, Malik Moveez Khan and Malik Mohammad Ayub Khan addressed the participants. They vowed to join hands to undertake the development needs of the areas. They also decided that the newly-elected representatives would attend a lunch to be given in their honour by Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani in Peshawar on Sunday.
