QUETTA, Aug 31: A man was killed and four others injured in a remote-controlled bomb explosion near Mastung on Wednesday. The bomb exploded on the Quetta-Karachi National Highway about 200 yards away from a Frontier Corps mess at around 9am.
“Unknown miscreants planted the bomb in a fruit cart parked on roadside near a shop along the highway to blow up an FC vehicles’ caravan,” District Police Officer Saleem Lahri told Dawn, adding that it caused a powerful explosion.
“We have taken five suspects into custody for questioning,” he said. An FC soldier was injured and an official vehicle damaged, sources said.
The man killed in the explosion, Mohammad Naeem, was a shopkeeper.
He body and the injured were taken to the Mastung Civil Hospital.
A resident of the township, Abdul Wahid, told this correspondent that windowpanes of nearby buildings were smashed due to the blast.
Police sources said those arrested included one of the injured, who was suspected of detonating the bomb by a remote control. Police were also looking for the owner of the cart in which the bomb had been planted, they said.
