21 ‘illegal’ houses bulldozed

BAHAWALPUR, Aug 31: About 21 ‘illegal’ houses were bulldozed by TMA squads along with a heavy police contingent at Bhutta Salahuddin in Model Town B here on Wednesday. Later, DCO Muhammad Ashraf, TMO Abdul Quddoos Bhatti and the city ASP inspected the site. During the operation, one Sohail was arrested on charges of offering resistance.

The TMA had declared the Bhutta Salahuddin colony as illegal while the dwellers claimed that they possessed the place before 1985. They have appealed for alternative residential place. With the demolition of 21 houses, about 100 people would be affected.
