KARACHI, Aug 30: All the 557 applicants have been placed for admission to first year class at Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan College of Home Economics, EDO Higher Education, CDGK, said this on Tuesday.
The placement list was first of its kind for the current academic session, which commenced on Aug 1. Briefing the newsmen at PECHS College for Women, EDO Prof Alvi said that students selected for admission to the Home Economics College were required to finalize their admissions in a week, while teaching for them would commence on Sept 1.
According to details available from the Centralized Admission Committee for government city colleges, about 89,500 admission forms pertaining to intermediate classes were sold through banks, out of which 78,601 forms were received from students.
As far as number of applicants for Home Economics College was concerned, a source said that it had reduced in comparison to last year figures. About 740 students had applied for home economics group last year, out of which about 600 were placed for admission.
However, Prof Alvi maintained that the competition among the applicants in the home economics group had further increased this year, which was evident from the fact that last year the placement list of home economics began on 735 marks and closed at 441, while this year (2005-06) the list began on 763 marks and closed at 433 marks.
He said that due to the non-availability of SSC examination mark sheets in time and involvement of teachers in local body elections the deadline for the submission of admission forms had to be changed repeatedly but the admission committee officials had been able to complete their job well in advance. Last year home economics list was given on Sept 13, while this year it happened on Aug 30, he added.
The EDO said that the placement list for admissions to computer science classes would be issued in 2-3 days. To a question he said that the city government had allocated an amount to the tune of Rs10 million for improving teaching facilities and furniture position in colleges.
