KARACHI, Aug 30: The Sindh education department has decided to reorganize and strengthen the government elementary colleges and revamp teachers’ training with main focus on in-service education of teachers.

A decision to this effect was taken at a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro at her office here on Tuesday.

She was of the view that the present standard of teachers’ training was not satisfactory which ultimately affects the quality of education and efforts were being made in this very direction.

The minister directed that teachers training modules should be developed in accordance with the ground realities and stressed that in-service training of teachers should be the main focus instead of pre-service training through elementary colleges.

At the meeting it was decided to arrange two to three months in-service training for teachers to be recruited, before their induction into the schools.

The training will be carried out by the Bureau of Curriculum and Extension Wing, Sindh, PITE Sindh and AKUIED.

The meeting decided to merge various teachers training institutions located in small towns into district headquarters- based elementary colleges to strengthen the teachers’ training components.

It was also decided to take back special education institutions given to the district government through devolution plan.

Dr Khuhro directed to review the subjects to be taught in elementary colleges along with the inclusion of subjects of history, geography and social science.

The meeting decided to re-designate the two posts of additional directors from BPS 20 to BPS 19 along with revival of the posts of deputy directors/ subject specialists to bring sustainable improvements in the working of bureau.

It further decided to hire subject specialists from the market on contract basis.

The meeting decided to review the curriculum and prepare recommendations for the federal government to include into curriculum the local culture, heroes etc.

The minister reviewed the progress of Decentralised Elementary Education Project (DEEP) and IT projects and directed the concerned project directors to implement the projects in letter and spirit.

The meeting was attended by Sindh Education Secretary Syed Ghulam Ali Pasha and other officials.—APP
