ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: Federal Minister for Education Lt-Gen (retired) Javed Ashraf Qazi on Monday said the new curricula would be completed within one year and adopted by all the boards of the country in 2007.

“The existing curricula has some drawbacks and for this purpose a special committee is reviewing it. The process would be completed within six months,” the minister said while speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the archive and extension block of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) here.

He said the new curricula would be unique in all respects and be acceptable to all sects because it contained no controversial matter regarding creed, sect and religious beliefs.

For this purpose, the ministry is working hard to arrange a meeting of all provincial ministers and chairmen of the respective boards in November to develop a consensus on the new curricula and find out its possible drawbacks to make it more effective and acceptable to all sects, the minister said.

Replying to a question, Mr Qazi said the fund allocated for primary education was not enough to facilitate children at the grass-roots level. In this respect, he said he had met President Gen Pervez Musharraf to have a two-fold increase in the fund.

“The government has allocated just 2.7 per cent of its GDP, while a minimum of four per cent is required for primary education according to Unesco.”
