KARACHI: Kidnapped trader found dead

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Aug 25: A man kidnapped for ransom by unidentified persons was found dead. His body was recovered from the limits of Soldier Bazar police station on Thursday.

Police said Mehboob Ali, 22, having a garment shop in Jatpat Market in Lyari, had left his house in Kalakot area on motorcycle on Aug 24, but did not return. His cellphone was also not responding.

Later, Mehboob’s family received a ransom call from the kidnappers demanding Rs4 million.

The family negotiated the amount to Rs0.4 million, and a place near Dhobi Gath was decided for the exchange. But, the family failed to turn up at the agreed spot with the ransom amount, police said.

They then received another call by the kidnappers, saying “you have failed to honour your commitment and the victim will end up dead,” police said quoting the family.

A senior official of the CPLC said the family had neither informed the police nor the CPLC about the kidnapping.

Police said Mehboob’s body was recovered from a narrow street near Ghaffaria Masjid.

Following the recovery of the body, the police registered an FIR 106/2005 at the Solider Bazar police station.
