LAHORE, Aug 21: The Election Commission has directed all MPs to submit their yearly statements of assets and liabilities by Sept 13 otherwise they will cease to function as member of the relevant house.

All members of national and provincial assemblies and the Senate are required to submit to the commission the statements under section 42-! of the Representation of the Peoples Act, 1976 and section 25-! of the Senate (election) Act, 1975.

The statements are published in the official gazette.

The commission warned that names of the members who would fail to file the statements within the specified period would be notified by Oct 15, suspending their membership of the relevant house.

Meanwhile, acting chief election commissioner Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar has banned holding of corner meetings and election campaigns 24 hours before second phase of local polls being held on Aug 25.

Accordingly, the election campaign for the phase will come to an end on Tuesday midnight.

Eighteen districts of Punjab are included in the second phase of polls. These included Lahore, Faisalabad, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Okara, Jhelum, Jhang, Hafizabad, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Attock, Toba Tek Singh and Gujrat.—Staff Reporter
