PML groups eye top slots in Sialkot

Published August 22, 2005

SIALKOT, Aug 21: All the five PML groups in the district are making efforts for the nomination of their respective candidates for the top slot and various tehsil nazim offices.

These groups are using their political connections for the purpose, as the ruling party needs to make adjustments with other groups to place its candidates in different slots in the absence of required UC nazim seats.

The leaders of these groups have reportedly also approached the Chaudhries of Gujrat for their support in this regard.

Though the National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain has already been assigned the task of uniting the PML factions in the district and to nominate suitable candidates for various offices, no reunion is in sight so far.

PAC Chairman Azeem Noori and MPA Bao Muhammad Rizwan have entered into a new alliance to get their candidates nominated for the tehsil nazim slots in Daska and Sambrial.

Meanwhile, local leadership of PML-N, PPP and MMA has also decided to field joint candidates for district and tehsil nazim slots against the hopefuls belonging to different PML groups.

As the PML-N and PPP have won considerable UC nazim seats, they are expected to make a strong opposition in the new district assembly even if they fail to place their candidates in the important offices.
