LAHORE, Aug 19: A chanceless career-best unbeaten 265 by J.P Duminy and his record-breaking sixth-wicket stand of 349 with centurion Ryan Canning(112) enabled South Africa Academy to pile up 470 for five declared in the first innings against Pakistan Academy on the second day of the second “Test” at the Qadhafi Stadium on Friday.
The pair took the total from 224 to 470, before skipper Francois Du Plessis declared the innings 43 minutes after tea. At the stumps, the home team was 88 for two in 28.2 overs, losing openers Khalid Latif (12) and Nasir Jamshed (24).
Shahid Yousaf (34) with Aamir Sajjad, yet to open his account, will resume the innings on Saturday with gigantic task of scoring 233 more runs with eight wickets in hand to avoid follow-on.
“The wicket is slow and favouring batsmen and I hope we will come back in the game with couple of good innings. Our first priority is to avoid the follow-on. The South African batsmen specially Duminy played outstandingly despite the fact our bowlers bowled well”, skipper Hasan Raza said.
The day was dominated by Duminy and Canning and they had brought the visitors in a position from where they could dictate terms against the home side.
Duminy, whose celebrations were short ived, as he has been ruled out for seven days due to fracture, received while fielding and had three stitches.
He completed his maiden double-century off 395 balls in 523 minutes, hitting 23 boundaries and four sixes. In all, he cracked 26 boundaries and four sixes off 452 balls.
“Yes, I did enjoy batting here and delighted over playing the career-best innings. Yasir Ali and Mansoor Amjad, were two bowlers who created problems for me”, Duminy said.
Canning, who first gave Duminy due support, later settled down and struck 11 fours off 309 balls.
