KARACHI: City govt launches Rs130m projects: Water, sewerage networks


KARACHI, Aug 10: The city government has initiated work on a consolidated programme for rehabilitation of water supply and sewerage networks in the city at an estimated cost of Rs130 million.

The caretaker of the city government, Fazalur Rehman, while approving the programme, directed the concerned officials to immediately start cleaning, repair and replacement of dilapidated water supply and sewerage lines for resolution of the core problem.

He asked relevant engineers to start work in all localities simultaneously to stop water seepage from water supply and sewerage lines.

According to the programme, in Lyari Town, old lines would be replaced with six-, eight-, nine- and 12-inch diameter MS pipelines at Aatma Ram Road-junction of Mirza Adam Khan Road and Tannery Road, to improve the water supply situation, at a cost of Rs1.9 million; eight-, 12- and 14-inch FC sewer pipelines would be laid from Mirza Adam Khan Road to Tulsi Road, Agra Taj Colony for Rs1.4 million; and cleaning of 12-, 15- and 18-inch sewerage lines in Liaquat Town’s blocks 1, 2, 3 and 4, would be laid at a cost of Rs2.23 million.

In UC-7 of Site Town, from Banaras Pump House to Haji Ghulam Hussain House, 12-inch MS, 10-inch AC water line, and six-inch branches would be laid for Rs40.61 million.

Disposal of sewage work and replacement of distribution network by laying 3/4-inch line, 10-inch pumping main, six-inch distribution main in blocks P and Q of North Nazimabad Town would be done at a cost of Rs3.89 million.

In Gulberg Town, an 18-inch MS line with interconnection would be laid in Block-3 Azizabad Pump House opposite to Masjid Falah at a cost of Rs1,28 million; a 12-inch AC water supply line would be laid at Rs1.68 million from Medical Dental College Block-16 to Centrum Shopping Mall in Block 21; and cleaning of 42-inch sewers and construction of manholes from STM Division-1, Al-Khidmat Park near Mujahid Colony, Railway crossing to Ziauddin Hospital would be done at a cost of Rs1.28 million.

Sewerage lines of 12, 15 and 18 inches would be laid in blocks 5, 6, 7 and 8 of Liaquatabad Town for Rs1.36 million; fixing and reconstruction and repair of manholes in various other UCs of Liaquatabad Town would be done at a cost of Rs3.68 million; while cleaning of 12- and 15-inch sewers and de-silting in the town would be done at a cost of Rs4.44 million.

RCC slabs of 21- and 24-inch RCC manhole covers, repair and reconstruction of broken manholes, replacement of collapsed lines and cleaning and de-silting of eight-, 12-, 15-, 24-, 33-, 42-inch lines in various parts of North Nazimabad Town would be done at a cost of Rs5.1 million.

In North Karachi Town, six- and eight-inch AC water supply lines would be laid from Kalyana Town to Nagan at a cost of Rs1.19 million; cleaning of 12-, 15- and 18-inch main sewers in sectors 5-E, 5-J, and 5-D would be carried out at Rs2.03 million; cleaning of main sewer of 12- and 15-inch in sectors 11-F and 5-G would be done for at Rs2.02 million; and cleaning of main sewers of 12-, 15- and 18-inch diameters in 11-D, 11-G, and 5-F in the town would be done at Rs1.5 million.

De-silting of sewerage lines in Hasrat Mohani, Zubairi and Asif colonies and Wilayatabad, Pak Colony in SITE Town would be done at a cost of Rs1.14 million; de-silting of sewerage lines in Old Golimar, Saleh Muhammad Village, Shah Dost Village, Noor Muhammad Village, Qadimi Mohallah, Ghulam Muhammad Village, Parya Village, Central Muslimabad, UC-2 and 4 and Metroville would be done at a cost of Rs1.18 million; water supply system would be improved in Islamia Colony, Manghopir Road UC-9 for Rs1.8 million; while sewage disposal work and cleaning of three-, four- and six-inch AC water lines in UC-I would be done at a cost of Rs1.3 million.

Replacement of water supply lines in Sector 8, Gulistan-i-Ghazi to Ittehad Town, Saeedabad in Baldia Town would be done at Rs3.96 million.

Besides, rehabilitation and upgradation of the existing water supply network in the adjoining areas of Shah Faisal Town and Gulshan-i-Rafi Bangalows, and laying of a 10-inch diameter line would be done at a cost of Rs1.27 million; a 16-inch line would be laid from Block-3 Nazim Office UC-3 in the town to improve water supply system for Rs4.56 million.

Also according to the programme, in Landhi Town, 12-inch main FC sewers would be laid from Qudsia Masjid to Bilal Masjid 5-C and 37-A area, Street No 12 to 37-B at a cost of Rs0.9 million; eight-, 12-, 14- and 18-inch fibre cement sewerage pipelines would be laid in J-1 K-Area, 36-C, I-Area UC-12, at a cost of Rs5.64 million; 18-, 20-, 28- and 32-inch FC pipes would be laid in Sherpao Colony, Bilal Colony and Kashmir Mohallah, Bangali Para, Muhammad Nagar F-1 and F-2 area adjacent to Landhi Industrial Area, besides rehabilitating the existing system at a cost of Rs9.3 million; and eight-, 14-, 18- and 20-inch sewerage pipe lines would be laid in UC-5 of the town and the existing system would be rehabilitated at a cost of Rs5.52 million.—APP
