Election row leaves four injured

SAHIWAL, Aug 9: Four people sustained injuries during a clash between two groups over election rivalry here on Monday evening at Chak 98/9-L.Reports said Muhammad Iqbal, a supporter of Awam Dost nazim candidate Rana Farooq, allegedly removed a banner of opponent candidate Malak Muhammad Aslam from his house. As a result of which a clash took place between supporters of both the candidates injuring four people.

The injured were identified as Shah Nawaz, Allah Ditta, Zafar Iqbal and Naveed.

Police on the report of Malak Aslam’s supporter Haji Shah Nawaz have registered a case against Awam Dost people who were identified as Muhammad Iqbal, Zafar Iqbal, Sarfraz, Fakhar, Haq Nawaz, Rab Nawaz, Tanvir, Zakir Husain, Shahbaz and Gul. The case was registered under Sections 337, 148 and 149 of the PPC with no arrest so far.

Meanwhile, Awam Dost nazim candidate Rana Farooq alleged that the PML supporters first tore his banner and also demanded registration of a case against them.

BANNED OUTFIT: Kamir police on Tuesday arrested defunct Jaish-i-Muhammad president Maulvi Nazir Ahmed and recovered hatred literature from his possession.

A case has been registered against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA).

ARRESTED: Sahiwal police claimed on Tuesday to have arrested two robbers after an hour-long encounter in Chak no 3/14-L while their three accomplices managed to escape.

Reports said the robbers entered the house of Ahmed Din in Chak 3/14-L. Meanwhile, some villagers and a police party came and arrested Farooq Gondal and Ejaz after an ‘encounter.’

A case has been registered under Sections 392, 399, 402 and Arms Act.
