Azad Kashmir minister laid to rest

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 9: Thousands of people here attended the funeral of Azad Jammu and Kashmir minister Syed Mumtaz Ali Gillani who died recently of heart complications in London.

Tributes were paid to the late minister by AJK President Sardar Anwar Khan, Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat, former PM Sardar Abdul Qayyum and several other leaders from ruling and opposition parties.

The body of the 66-year-old minister was flown to his ancestral Rawani village by helicopter from Islamabad airport where it had arrived from London.

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government had earlier declared Tuesday a holiday to mourn the death of Mr Gillani.
