HEC approves project to strengthen CIIT campus

ISLAMABAD, Aug 9: The Higher Education Commission has approved a project to strengthen the Comsats Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), Islamabad campus.

The project also has a component of Human Resource Development as 16 overseas scholarships will be provided to the faculty members.

The project includes establishment of campus lab, Networking Hub and Server, setting up of engineering workshop, Telecom Engg teaching lab, physics lab, Electronics lab Meteorology Teaching lab, Architecture lab, Multilingual lab and Bio Informatics lab as well as construction of academic block, (central library, workshop and other physical infrastructure.

The project will help provide latest facilities to the students in the areas of higher education i.e. Information Technology, Engineering, Management, Economics/Finance, Basic and Social Sciences, etc to prepare them to take up challenging assignments in the economic mainstream.

By the time project is completed, the total enrolment at CIIT, Islamabad will reach 4123. Each year 900 students in the Bachelors, 400 students in Masters and 18-20 students would start graduating at the Ph.D level. The campus at Islamabad has already started producing graduates at B.S and Masters level. It is estimated that in approximately 4 years time from now, approximately 1,300 students will be coming out from CIIT‘s campus at Islamabad. The project will help in meeting the critically felt need for highly qualified personnel for domestic and international markets and will thus help accelerate the formation and up gradation of human capital.
