RDCA suspended, ad hoc imposed

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Aug 3: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday suspended the membership of Rawalpindi District Cricket Association (RDCA) and appointed a three-man ad hoc committee to run the affairs till elections are held.

Chairman of PCB, Shaharyar M. Khan said that affairs of RDCA were not being managed in accordance with the constitution of the board and the conduct of the office-bearers was derogatory.

He named Brig (Retd) Munawar Ahmad Rana as the head of the ad hoc committee with Abdul Mohi Shah and Tahir Ansari as its members.

In a charge-sheet against the association that was being run by Masood Anwar who was banned recently for one year for playing an over-age player in the National under-19 competition, the PCB said it had become impossible to manage the affairs in a fair manner.

The notification said that the RDCA office-bearers were not representatives of the electorate as they had not been elected. “Notwithstanding this anomaly they have exceeded the mandatory period of three years meant for elected office-bearers.”

The PCB found the conduct of Masood Anwar as “extremely controversial and unbecoming” and pointed out that there had been serious allegations of nepotism, misconduct, financial irregularities and favouritism against the office-bearers.

“The office-bearers have flouted with impunity the provisions of the constitution of PCB, its directions and reservations including the undertaking given by them.”

It was stated that to ensure a conducive and friendly environment for holding the England and India series and to address the security concerns of the government agencies, it had become necessary to appoint an ad hoc committee.

The ad hoc committee has been directed to immediately assume charge and appoint a finance committee to scrutinise the accounts of the association and submit a report to PCB within 15 days.
